The Scream by Edvard Munch

The Scream by Edvard Munch

Originally painted in 1893, The Scream was inspired by a sudden moment of overwhelming anxiety suffered by Munch as he was out walking one day. Munch claims the feeling was brought on by the sunset, and the clouds turning 'blood red'. The German title of this painting is 'Der Schrei der Natur', which translates as 'The Scream of Nature'. The piece has also had a notable number of thefts or attempted thefts upon it.
