For Mum by Rachael Caddy

For Mum by Rachael Caddy can be found on College Walk.A pencil crayon portrait of the artist and her sister Jenny, and as the name suggests it was a gift for her Mother. It captures the close relationship of the sisters and also how much fun they have together, capturing a moment when they weren't taking themselves too seriously. Rachael said: "It is really important to me when creating a portrait to draw something that shows a person for who they are in a moment in time rather than something that is heavily posed and looks forced. Colour and composition are also very important for me as they can vastly alter the mood of a piece." A former student at RCAT who has recently set up as a self-employed artist. In 2009 Rachael completed a BA (Hons) degree in fine art drawing and painting at the University of Huddersfield, after which she returned to her home town of Rotherham. Since leaving university she has participated in exhibitions and curated a show called Minutiae at Bank Street Arts in Sheffield where she also worked as a gallery assistant. She is now committed to developing her own artistic practice, and also taking commissions.
